Fron/Dudko Family Ancestry

A BRIEF FAMILY HISTORY

As the story goes, the Frons and Dudkos were in Poland when the German Kaiser Wilhelm invaded. He forced all "Poles" to "Germanize" their surnames or go to either a prison camp or a death camp. It was the Kaiser's choice as to which outcome would be handed out. Those who were still in Poland at the time, changed their last name in order to survive. Thus, the name "Fron" originated. Unbeknownst to all of us Frons, we do not know what the original "Fron" name was; It was 1). Either truncated from originally; or 2). was derived from another (also unknown) name.

As for the Dudkos, when the Kaiser began his raids on Warsaw and the small surrounding communities, the Dudko family got out and is said to be why and how they ended up in America. Both families left for survival. Neither family left for what may was considered "job opportunity" as it may have been for many Poles, as well as other Europeans.

When the ship with the Fron family landed, there were four brothers. Your Great-Grandpa is the only one who ended up in Erath County, Texas. One brother supposedly settled in Pennsylvania, and the other two brothers headed north to the area in or around Chicago. Thus, the reason the Fron name is more plentiful in the North/Northeast --there were two Fron brothers starting families, instead of just one brother.
